Privacy Policy
Last updated August 7, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Kial ("Kial", "we", "us") handles information when you use the Kial app and website (the "Service"). Questions? Email support@kial.app.
Information we collect
- Account information: your email address and, if you provide it, your name. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive the email and name you authorize (Apple may provide a private relay email). You may also use the app as a guest with no email.
- Preferences: currency, language, theme, and time zone.
- Financial data you enter: the expenses, income, budgets, savings goals, recurring transactions, categories, merchants, notes, and home-screen layout you create in the app. We do not connect to your bank or import transactions automatically.
- Receipt images:when you scan a receipt, the photo is sent for automatic reading (see "Receipt scanning" below).
- Voice:when you use the voice assistant, your device converts your speech to text and we process that text (see "Voice assistant" below). Kial never records or stores audio.
- Usage data: basic in-app activity — for example which screens and features you use and how long an action takes — associated with your account so we can understand how Kial is used and improve it. Apart from the assistant events described next, this data contains no amounts, merchant or category names, notes, or other financial details.
- Assistant transcripts:when you use the voice assistant, we store what you said and how the assistant interpreted it, linked to your account. We need this to check whether the assistant understood people correctly and to improve it. Because a transcript is simply your own sentence, it may contain an amount or a merchant name if you spoke one (for example "I spent 300 at the supermarket"). If you would rather not have this stored, don't use the voice assistant — every other part of Kial works without it.
We do not use advertising, cross-app tracking, or crash-reporting tools, and we never sell your data. The only analytics we collect are the usage events described above, kept in our own backend (Supabase) — we do not share them with any third-party analytics service.
How we use your information
- To provide and operate the Service (store and display your data).
- To read receipts you scan and pre-fill an expense for you.
- To understand what you ask the voice assistant, so it can pre-fill a record or answer a question about your own data.
- To send essential account emails (sign-up confirmation, email changes, password resets). We do not send marketing email.
- To understand how the app is used and improve it, using the privacy-preserving usage data described above (no financial details).
Receipt scanning
When you scan a receipt, the image is sent to our processor Anthropic (the Claude AI service) to extract details such as the merchant, amounts, and date. Kial does not store the receipt image— it is used only to return the parsed data. You may optionally save the photo to your own device's photo library.
Voice assistant
The assistant works in two steps, and it is worth being precise about what leaves your device at each one.
- Speech to text happens on your device, using the system speech recognition built into your phone — Apple's on iOS, Google's on Android. Depending on your device and settings, those systems may process the audio on their own servers under their own privacy policies. This is the same recognition any dictation keyboard uses. Kial never receives, records, or stores the audio; we only ever see the resulting text. Your device asks for microphone and speech-recognition permission the first time, and you can revoke it in system settings at any time.
- Understanding the sentence is done by our processor Anthropic (the Claude AI service). We send the transcribed sentence together with a list of your own names— your categories, merchants, accounts, and savings goals — so the assistant can tell that "the Costco card" means your account and "groceries" means your category. We do not send your transactions, balances, amounts, budgets, or notes.
When you ask a question, the AI only decides what to show you — which view and which filters. The answer itself is then calculated from the data already in your account and never passes through the AI. Anthropic processes this data on our behalf to return a result and does not use it to train its models.
Service providers
- Supabase — hosts our authentication, database, and backend functions. Your data is stored here and isolated per user.
- Anthropic — processes receipt images you scan and the sentences you speak to the assistant (see above).
- Apple and Google — if you choose to sign in with them, and for the on-device speech recognition the assistant uses.
These providers operate in the United States and other countries, so your information may be processed outside Mexico.
Security & retention
Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and access is restricted so you can only see your own records. We keep your data while your account is active.
Deleting your data
You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Delete account. This permanently and immediately removes your account and all associated data (expenses, income, budgets, savings, recurring items, categories, merchants, home-screen layout, usage data, assistant transcripts, and any feedback you sent). This action cannot be undone.
Your rights
You can access, correct, or delete your information from within the app. Under Mexico's LFPDPPP and laws such as the GDPR and CCPA, you may also have rights to request access or deletion — contact support@kial.app.
Children
Kial is intended for people 18 and older and is not directed to children.
Changes
We may update this policy; we'll revise the date above and, for material changes, notify you in the app.
